Let's Go Elks!!!!!
Interesting math problem:
Total hours in a week: 168
Hours in school per week: 32
Hours you need for sleep per week: 56
Hours spent doing chores (estimated) per week: 10
Hours spent on meals (estimated) per week: 20
Hours spent getting ready (estimated) per week: 4
- 4 = 46 hours of free time per week!
If you used 6 of those hours and dedicated them to learning outside of school, it would
make you a MUCH more successful student. You could just spend 20 or 30 minutes a night
during the week and then a few hours on Friday and Saturday and you'd be there! You would
have Sunday all to yourself and you would still have 40 more hours of free time left!
So, what can you do outside of school to help you?
Think about the things you are learning right now that are giving you the most trouble. Look for videos on YouTube about these topics. Watch, listen and take notes on the videos. You can pause and restart the video as many times as you like. Maybe it's reading that you're having a hard time with. You really don't understand what an inference is and you're not too sure you understand what analyzing text means.
Here's a video link from YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdaD2FZQFEY
You will need to copy and paste the link into a new tab. Thanks.
You can also do practice worksheets and use the key to check yourself. There are so many free
worksheets available on the web. If you're not sure which ones to use, ask your teacher.
You can also study any materials your teacher has given you. This will help you compile a list of questions you have to really clarify things for yourself. Figuring out what you don't know is an excellent skill!!
Remember, learning is very challenging, so plan on spending some time and energy before you really understand what you are trying to learn. Once you've mastered the skill, you could reward yourself.
Play a video game, chat with a friend, have a cold soda, or a warm hot chocolate.
The more successes you have, the more successes you will have and your knowledge and skill
level will grow and grow.
Fun fact: Hours in school per year: 1152 Total hours in a year: 8760
